Job summary

Husson University Athletics seeks a part-time athletic trainer to join the SportsMedicine team. Per diem role responsible for prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for student-athletes, and for daily medical coverage during practices and events.

The position supports the athletic department and requires MAINE licensure or eligibility, NATA BOC, and CPR certification. Travel and overnight coverage are part of the duties, with mentorship of students as a CAATE preceptor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in athletic training from a CAATE‑accredited program (Master’s preferred).
• NATA BOC certification is required.
• Maine state licensure or eligibility is required.
• CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries for student-athletes.
• Oversee general health care and coordinate referrals to physicians, therapists and Wellness Center staff.
• Provide medical coverage for teams during practices and events, including travel and overnight duties.
• Maintain medical records and communicate injury status to coaching staff.
• Serve as CAATE-approved preceptor and mentor students during clinical experiences.

Description

Seeking individuals with character, integrity, and the leadershipskills necessary to complement the Husson University SportsMedicine Team and the athletic department as a whole. The StaffAthletic Trainer will assist in the daily operations of the SportsMedicine Department as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer. Thisis a per diem position.

Example of Duties

• Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, andrehabilitation of injuries, illness and medical issues of allstudent-athletes.
• Oversee the general health care of all student-athletes.
• Responsible for all medical referrals to team physicians,surgeons, physical therapists and the Husson University WellnessCenter.
• Provide medical coverage to athletic teams through dailypractice coverage.
• Athletic training facility coverage during hours ofoperation.
• Daily communication with coaching staff regarding injury statusof student-athletes.
• Computer medical record documentation.
• Administrative duties as assigned by the Head AthleticTrainer.
• Event coverage (home and away).
• Overnight travel will also be required.
• Function as a CAATE approved preceptor.
  • Instruct and supervise students during clinicalexperience.

Qualifications

Education

• B.A. or B.S. degree required from a CAATE-approved AthleticTraining Education Program, Master's degree preferred
• NATA BOC certification
• Maine State license or eligible for Maine State license
• CPR certification

Experience

• Minimum of one year working as a Certified Athletic Trainerpreferred, internships included.
• Knowledge of Athletic Training skills which will include butnot limited to:
  • administrative skills, first aid, evaluation and assessment,rehabilitation and therapeutic modalities, as well asorganizational skills and excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills.

Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, andability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job,you will be required to stand for long periods of time. You willalso be required to assist student-athletes from the field, liftcoolers, and have the ability to kneel and crouch to assiststudent-athletes.
