THE OPPORTUNITY
Assists in the development and implementation of a program for the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Assist in the administration of the Sports Medicine Program.
- Develop, train, and supervise Work Study Training Room Assistants.
- Help supervise use of all Athletic Training Room facilities.
- Maintain current medical paperwork on athletes they oversee.
- Work independently with the medical care and rehabilitation of student‑athletes.
- Provide medical coverage for home varsity athletic contests and practices and away contests as assigned.
- Collaborate with coaching staff in developing conditioning, weight training, and nutrition programs for athletes.
- Advise coaching staff of daily medical status of injured players.
- Maintain responsibility, upon a physician's advice, in determining the athlete’s ability to return to participation at any level.
- Promote health and physical wellbeing of Athletic Program participants through first aid, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Provide assistance to Health Center personnel with any orthopedic injuries.
- Coordinate transportation and/or referral to appropriate medical facilities for both emergency and non‑emergency care for intercollegiate student‑athletes.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3–5 years of experience in athletic training or a related field.
- NATABOC Certified and maintain certification through continuing education units.
- Emergency Cardiac Care Certification.
- Licensed as Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Hepatitis B vaccination and compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication skills, including telephone and e‑mail.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to change, and support new initiatives.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Master’s degree preferred.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
Travel required; regular physical exertion, exposure to weather, and heavy lifting (75lb and over). Must hold a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license for one year and maintain an insurable driving record, complete the College’s vehicle training program within the first 60days, and undergo periodic safety training.
COMPENSATION
Non‑exempt position; $35–$40per hour. Paid sick leave per applicable law.
