Job summary

Husson University is seeking a per diem Staff Athletic Trainer to support the Sports Medicine Team and athletic department in Bangor, ME. Responsibilities include injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and daily athletic health management for student-athletes.

The role involves event coverage, daily practice coverage, overnight travel, and serving as a CAATE approved preceptor for students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a CAATE-approved program.
  • NATA BOC certification is required.
  • Maine state license or eligibility is required; CPR certification.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries and medical issues of student-athletes.
  • Oversee general health care and orchestrate medical referrals.
  • Provide medical coverage during practice and events, including travel.
  • Maintain medical records and perform administrative duties as assigned.

Job description

Seeking individuals with character, integrity, and the leadership skills necessary to complement the Husson University Sports Medicine Team and the athletic department as a whole. The Staff Athletic Trainer will assist in the daily operations of the Sports Medicine Department as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer. This is a per diem position.

  • Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries, illness and medical issues of all student-athletes.
  • Oversee the general health care of all student-athletes.
  • Responsible for all medical referrals to team physicians, surgeons, physical therapists and the Husson University Wellness Center.
  • Provide medical coverage to athletic teams through daily practice coverage.
  • Athletic training facility coverage during hours of operation.
  • Daily communication with coaching staff regarding injury status of student-athletes.
  • Computer medical record documentation.
  • Administrative duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Event coverage (home and away).
  • Overnight travel will also be required.
  • Function as a CAATE approved preceptor.
    • Instruct and supervise students during clinical experience.
Education:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree required from a CAATE-approved Athletic Training Education Program, Master’s degree preferred
  • NATA BOC certification
  • Maine State license or eligible for Maine State license
  • CPR certification
Experience:
  • Minimum of one year working as a Certified Athletic Trainer preferred, internships included.
  • Knowledge of Athletic Training skills which will include but not limited to:
    • administrative skills, first aid, evaluation and assessment, rehabilitation and therapeutic modalities, as well as organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, you will be required to stand for long periods of time. You will also be required to assist student-athletes from the field, lift coolers, and have the ability to kneel and crouch to assist student-athletes.
