Job summary

Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in Pequannock, NJ. This role trains and coaches the store team to drive growth, embody the brand, and deliver exceptional customer service.

You will oversee operations with attention to detail and promote the mission in a fast-paced retail environment. The position emphasizes building teams, meeting performance goals, managing schedules, and ensuring compliance with policies while nurturing community

Qualifications

  • Some college preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience and two years of retail experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Open availability, including holidays.
  • Proven ability to drive and exceed store results.
  • Proven ability to build lasting relationships with colleagues.
  • Adapt to internal and external customers.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented

Responsibilities

DRIVE FOR RESULTS
  • Operate in accordance with the established hours of business and is properly staffed
  • Control and minimize store expenses
  • Recommend ways to increase sales efficiency
  • Develop and expand local donor base
  • Ensure excellent customer relations are maintained, including training employees to greet, thank, or converse with customers and donors, monitoring their performance
OPERATIONS
  • Maintain a supply of cash and change sufficient to meet daily business needs
  • Ensure that general conditions of store meet high standards at all times
  • Ensure that the premises are always safe for customers and employees
  • Ensure that employees have been trained in and are complying with security policies and procedures
  • Establish and monitor sound cash- handling procedures consistent with company policy
  • Ensure timely bank deposits either personally or by higher management
  • Maintain excellent cleanliness of the store, including restrooms, donation center, and back room
  • Ensure safety and security of store assets and premises
  • Establish and monitor sound cash-handling procedures consistent with company policy
  • Prepare, review, approve, and/or submit sales reports, invoices, donor logs, cash reports, petty cash requests, etc. as required
  • Process, price, tag, hang, and display merchandise to maximize sales
Team Management
  • Ensure performance standards and goals are met regularly
  • Schedule interviews, and recommend hiring of store employees
  • Conduct initial training, recurrent training, or training in new skills, policies, or procedures
  • Ensure that employees accurately and properly record all hours workedAssist store manager with employee performance evaluation and discussion
  • Assist store manager to manage staff compensation and incentives
  • Responsible for payroll reconciliation in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Schedule and conduct periodic store-employee meetings to discuss new matters or particular problems
  • Enforce all personnel, loss prevention and operational policies and procedures
Our Must Haves
  • Some college preferred. High school diploma, GED equivalency required, or its equivalent in courses of business or marketing
  • Undergone two (2) years of supervisory experience and two (2) years of retail experience
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite and ability to adapt to internal applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and able to push/pull up to 50lbs.
  • Must have open availability and able to work holidays. Your schedule will be based on business needs.
  • Proven ability to drive and exceed individual and store results.
  • Proven ability to build lasting relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to and engage with internal and external customers.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with customers, sales leadership team and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to receive feedback and act when appropriate.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs which include evenings, weekends and holidays.
