Job description

Job Title: Sr. PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Developer
Duration: 12 Months, with possible extension
Interview: Virtual
Overview

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) is seeking a Senior PeopleSoft Technical Developer through its staff augmentation vendors to design, develop, test, and deploy student planning tools within its existing PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9 (CS9) environment.

The scope includes developing three key tools: a degree planner, a student schedule builder, and enhancements to the student self-service portal. These tools will serve students, academic advisors, and faculty across all seven City Colleges of Chicago and their satellite locations.

This initiative is part of Project SAILS (Student Access, Intention, Learning, and Success), funded by a U.S. Department of Education Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant awarded to Richard J. Daley College on behalf of CCC.

Project SAILS focuses on two primary objectives:

  • Mandatory holistic advising: Ensure every first-time student meets with an advisor, declares a program of study, and develops a semester plan.
  • Strategic yearlong course scheduling: Enable colleges to plan course offerings for the full academic year based on student needs.

The tools included in this engagement will provide the technology foundation for these objectives by helping students track their academic progress, enabling advisors to maintain a shared view of student degree plans, and providing the district with reliable data to determine which courses are needed and when.

The selected developer will join the SAILS project team, led by the SAILS Project Manager, and collaborate closely with CCC's Academic Systems department. The developer will work within the existing PeopleSoft environment to deliver a modern, intuitive, mobile-friendly user experience using upgrade-safe development practices that CCC staff can maintain after the engagement concludes.

Required Qualifications
  • Seven or more years of experience in a technical PeopleSoft role involving analysis, configuration, programming, and administration.
  • Five or more years of experience developing and troubleshooting with PeopleTools 8.5x or higher, including Application Designer, PeopleCode, Application Engine, SQR, BI Publisher, Component Interfaces, and Integration Broker.
  • Hands-on PeopleSoft Campus Solutions experience in higher education, including Academic Advisement (degree audit), Student Records, Enrollment, Class Schedule, and Campus Community.
  • Strong SQL and Oracle database skills for analysis, debugging, and development.
  • Experience with web services and integrations using Integration Broker, REST APIs, and JSON.
  • Full software development lifecycle (SDLC) experience, including requirements gathering, fit-gap analysis, testing, and deployment, using source control and defect-tracking tools.
  • Ability to document technical and business requirements, processes, and user support materials.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, facilitate working sessions, and build effective working relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing or implementing degree planning, schedule-building, or student self-service tools at a college or university.
  • Experience working in a multi-campus institution or community college district.
  • Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and accessible user interface development.
  • Experience with upgrade-safe PeopleSoft customizations, PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM), and Selective Adoption.
  • Experience with reporting and analytics tools, including PS Query, BI Publisher, Pivot Grids, and data extracts.
  • Experience integrating PeopleSoft with academic advising platforms such as EAB Navigate.
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments.
  • Experience working on federally funded projects.
  • PeopleSoft or related technology certifications.
