We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced People Operations Manager to build and lead our core people operations function. As our first dedicated HR hire, you will be instrumental in establishing a compliant, efficient, and strategically aligned people infrastructure. Your focus will be on ensuring operational excellence and legal adherence across all employee-related processes, while serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team. This role is centered on the operational and compliance aspects of the employee lifecycle, supporting a positive work environment through effective systems and processes.
Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Legal:
- Ensure strict compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with a strong emphasis on managing multi-state employment requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HR policies and procedures that are legally sound and consistently applied.
- Manage all compliance reporting requirements and audits.
- Provide expert guidance on employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations, ensuring legal defensibility and fairness.
- People Operations:
- Design and manage a streamlined and effective onboarding process for new hires.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Manage and optimize our HRIS and other people-related systems.
- Support the implementation of HR initiatives aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
- Possess knowledge and expertise in understanding, evaluating, and providing input on compensation comparisons and performance pay structures.
- Strategic Partnership:
- Serve as a knowledgeable and reliable point of contact and advisor to the CEO and leadership team on people operations matters.
- Provide insights and support in organizational development and change management initiatives from an operational and compliance perspective.
- Contribute to the development of company-wide policies that support organizational growth and efficiency.
- Employee Relations:
- Manage and resolve employee relations issues with sensitivity, fairness, and a strong understanding of legal implications.
- Oversee performance improvement plan processes and ensure legally sound termination procedures.
- Culture Support:
- Support company culture initiatives through effective operational processes and policy implementation. This role will support, not create, culture-building programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a People Operations, HR Manager, or similar role with a strong emphasis on compliance and operational HR.
- Demonstrable expertise in federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with significant experience managing multi-state compliance.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion.
- Experience working with HRIS platforms.
- Ability to build trust and effectively partner with leadership.
- Experience managing employee onboarding, performance management, and termination processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Trainual.
