Turn this role into an interview — a resume and cover letter built around what this employer wants.
Flatbush Cats, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit, seeks a People Operations Manager to lead HR across recruiting, onboarding, performance, development, engagement, and retention. Reporting to senior leadership, you will build consistency and structure in people practices to support a growing organization and empower managers as leaders.
The role emphasizes empathy, sound judgment, and scalable systems, with a hybrid schedule (five days/week, one remote day).
Flatbush Cats is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to reduce overcrowded animal shelters in New York City and prevent more cats from ending up on the street in the first place. What began as a grassroots rescue effort has grown into a citywide organization addressing the root causes through affordable veterinary care, access to spay/neuter services, and community outreach.
At the heart of our work is Flatbush Veterinary Clinic, a high-volume nonprofit clinic serving low-income pet owners, rescue organizations, and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) volunteers throughout Brooklyn. Each year, the clinic performs more than 7,500 spay/neuter surgeries—a number that continues to grow—while providing affordable wellness and dental care to thousands of pets.
By combining high-quality veterinary care with a commitment to accessibility, we're helping keep pets with their families while creating a city where more people and pets can receive the support they need.
At Flatbush Cats, our ability to deliver on our mission depends on the people doing the work. As our team grows, we’re looking for a People Operations Manager who can help us build a workplace where employees have the clarity, support, tools, and opportunities they need to do great work.
Reporting to senior leadership, you’ll lead People Operations across the employee experience—from recruiting and onboarding to performance, development, engagement, and retention. You’ll work closely with managers and employees across our growing operations, bringing consistency and structure where it’s needed while ensuring our practices remain thoughtful, practical, and connected to the realities of our teams.
You’ll have a meaningful opportunity to shape how we work and what it feels like to work here. You’ll strengthen the systems and practices behind the employee experience, help managers become stronger people leaders, and build approaches that can evolve alongside the organization.
You’ll thrive in this role if you’re energized by both people and process: you can navigate a nuanced employee situation with empathy and sound judgment, then turn around and build a better system to prevent the same challenge from happening again.
