Job summary

Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) seeks a Benefits Supervisor to oversee disability, survivor, and reciprocal claims. Under the Benefits Manager, you will supervise analysts, coordinate daily workflows, and ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to pension laws and internal controls.

The role spans multiple functional areas and requires mentoring staff and driving process improvements. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in public pension services, at least 1 year in a supervisory

Qualifications

• Five (5) + years of experience in public pension fund member services or pension administration management.
• One (1) + year in a supervisory or team lead/senior role.
• Experience in a public pension plan preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, develop, coach, train, and evaluate Benefits staff; provide ongoing feedback on performance and quality.
• Direct and coordinate daily workflow within the assigned functional area; balance workloads and meet deadlines.
• Review and verify claims and calculations; provide technical guidance and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Coordinate Benefits activities and projects; support system enhancements and cross-functional teams.
