Job summary

Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois is seeking a Benefits Analyst I to support the Benefits Department under the supervision of the Benefits Manager. You will process and calculate retirement and related benefit claims, respond to inquiries, and prepare technical and clerical documentation.

This role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, familiarity with Illinois Pension Code Article 16, and the ability to work with high volumes while maintaining accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or four years of progressive responsibility in a related field.
• Strong analytical and organizational abilities with clear written communication.
• Ability to interpret pension rules and exchange with stakeholders accurately.
• Familiarity with Illinois Pension Code Article 16 is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process and calculate one type of retirement benefit or five types of optional service adjustments.
• Respond to inquiries and provide accurate benefit information to members and employers.
• Prepare letters, review documents, and manage mailings for the Benefits Department.
• Analyze data, verify recalculations, and ensure proper documentation per Pension Code.
• Review and submit divorce estimates, Social Security, and other required verifications.
• Collaborate with the Benefits Manager and internal teams to meet deadlines.
