This is a trainee position responsible for operating highway construction and maintenance equipment and performing manual labor duties on a highway or bridge maintenance crew.

In this position, the employee trains for licensing and certification to operate heavy construction equipment, including:

• Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA)
• Loader (LD) with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less

The employee also learns to perform and document pre-and post-operation checks, make field adjustments, operate various controls, utilize seat belts, and install/remove tire chains on dual wheels.

Duties will also include manual labor tasks such as flagging and traffic control.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
• Travel, overtime, and shift work required; hours may vary seasonally
• Telework: Not available for this position
• Salary: Starting salary may be non-negotiable in some cases

Qualifications

Special Requirements:

• Valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
• Valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit on the first day of work
• Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work

Conditions of Employment:

• Operation of vehicles or equipment with manual transmission may be required
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing as per Federal Regulations
