Responsibilities include operating pellet mills and related equipment to produce pelleted feeds per formulation and quality procedures. Qualifying candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, prior manufacturing experience preferred, and the ability to lift up to 55 lbs and work in various conditions.

Job description

Job Summary

The Pellet Mill Operator I is an hourly position and is responsible for operating all pelleting equipment to pellet mixed meal per Akralos specified feed formulation and quality procedures. Pelleting equipment includes, but not limited to, mixed meal delivery equipment, pellet mills and accompanying equipment, and other downstream addition and routing. This is a 2nd shift role and comes with a $2/hr shift differential. The schedule is 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Facility Expectation

• Follow the expectations of all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality standards.
• Ensure product quality expectations are met.
• Follow all facility Good Manufacturing Practices as required.
• Responsible for ensuring area is kept clean and completion of all listed housekeeping duties per the master sanitation schedule.
• Work with other Operations colleagues to effectively communicate production issues.
• Once qualified, provide mentoring and training to new colleagues.
• Required to work overtime as specified by management.
• Attend training classes in-plant or at other locations as assigned.

Work Duties

• Must be able to change and rebuild designated dyes using required tools, including adjusting rolls and clearing plugged dyes.
• Add necessary liquids or dusting material to pelleted products as specified in the Springfield Plant Product Specifications.
• Ability to withstand heights such as tops of bins, dust collectors, legs and other equipment.
• Safely and efficiently operate all necessary equipment. Follow all established plant safety rules and utilize LOTO as required.
• Support Quality control by checking weights, labeling, sequencing and clean-out procedures.
• Perform physical tasks such as squatting, kneeling, pushing and overhead work during dye changes as well as lifting up to 50 lbs while cutting and transferring flush pellets into barrels.
• Meet productivity goals by completing runs within targeted hours and minimizing downtime.
• Complete required documentation accurately (pellet logs and lost-time reports).
• Communicate ingredient shortages and all quality concerns to leadership.
• Follow the production lineup to batch and mix all feeds in accordance with Akralos established feed formulation and quality guidelines.
• Must be able to enter confined spaces and perform proper lock-out procedures.
• Cross-train in other areas of the plant
• Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Leadership.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent

• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
• Ability to act in a professional manner and adhere by Akralos Code of Conduct
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs
• Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
• Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, and gloves when required
• Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet working conditions
• Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a manufacturing environment
• Self-motivated with a solid work ethic
• Good attitude and works well in team atmosphere.
• Handles other duties as required.
