Pay Range

This range is provided by Health Care for the Homeless. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range

$18.00/hr - $20.19/hr

About the Role

As a Peer Recovery Specialist, you will use your lived experience with substance use recovery, mental health challenges, or homelessness to engage individuals on the streets, in encampments, and shelters across Baltimore. Your role is to support, connect clients to healthcare, housing, and behavioral health services, and promote harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles. Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will help reduce barriers and advocate for client needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage individuals experiencing homelessness to build trust and connect them to essential services.
  • Provide peer support, sharing your recovery journey to inspire others.
  • Facilitate access to behavioral health treatment, housing, and harm reduction supplies like naloxone kits.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, and case managers for holistic care.
  • Advocate for clients’ rights and self-determination within health and social service systems.
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and reflective practices to enhance your skills.
Qualifications
  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (required).
  • Lived experience with recovery from substance use, mental health challenges, or homelessness, with the ability to support others.
  • At least three years of peer recovery service experience, preferably with one year in healthcare or community settings.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) speakers are highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Baltimore City and local service providers.
  • Strong communication, crisis de-escalation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in dynamic environments, including street-based settings.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
