Job summary

Acacia Network in Bronx, NY, is seeking a part-time Recovery Support Specialist to engage youth and adults seeking outpatient treatment. You will use lived experience to connect with clients, provide peer support, advocacy, and navigation to care.

Under supervision, you will conduct proactive outreach, share recovery stories, assist with intake, accompany clients to appointments, and document encounters in compliance with OMH/OASAS standards.

Qualifications

• Must have personal lived experience with mental health challenges and/or substance use disorder.
• NYS certification such as NYCPS strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with NYS OMH and OASAS systems, trauma-informed care principles, and harm reduction strategies.
• Strong communication, active listening, and ability to stay calm in fast-paced settings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proactive outreach in community settings to engage youth and adults who may benefit from outpatient services.
• Share personal recovery stories professionally to build rapport and hope.
• Distribute educational materials and represent the organization at community events to reduce stigma.
• Provide one-on-one support to navigate intake and admission processes for outpatient programs.
• Accompany clients to initial appointments or resources to provide emotional support and modeling of self-advocacy.
• Help clients understand their rights within the behavioral health system.
• Identify and mitigate barriers to treatment, such as transportation or documentation issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation of outreach encounters and peer sessions.
• Ensure activities align with OMH/OASAS regulatory standards.
• Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
