Job summary

Acacia Network in the Bronx seeks a Recovery Support Specialist to connect with youth and adults pursuing outpatient mental health services. The role centers on outreach, peer support, advocacy, and helping clients access care.

Under the Director of Outreach, you will share recovery stories, build trust, accompany clients to appointments, and educate on rights within the behavioral health system. Lived recovery experience is required.

Qualifications

• Must have personal lived experience with mental health challenges and a commitment to recovery.
• NYCPS: New York Certified Peer Specialist certification preferred.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Familiarity with NYS OMH/OASAS systems, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction.
• Strong communication, active listening, and calmness under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proactive outreach in community settings to identify and engage youth and adults.
• Share personal recovery stories to build rapport and instill hope.
• Distribute educational materials and represent the organization at events to reduce stigma.
• Provide one-on-one support to help clients navigate intake and admissions for outpatient programs.
• Accompany clients to initial appointments for emotional support and self-advocacy modeling.
• Help clients understand their rights within the behavioral health system.
• Identify and mitigate barriers to treatment, such as transportation or documentation.
• Maintain accurate documentation of outreach encounters and sessions.
• Ensure activities align with state regulatory standards (OMH/OASAS).
• Participate in staff meetings, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development.
