The Orthopaedic Center at Huntsville Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Pediatric Medical Assistant (MA)/Floater for a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week. The PEDS MA will support orthopedic physicians with clinical and secretarial duties under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator and may travel locally to satellite offices.

Required HS/GED with ROT or CCMA certification within 90 days and at least one year of clinical healthcare experience preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Draw up and call in medications, prepare exam rooms, restock clinic supplies and power up computers.
  • Assist with verifying pre‑op labs and scheduling surgery clearances.
  • Travel locally to satellite offices as required.
  • Answer and return calls, set appointment and surgery reminders, and educate patients.

Job description

The Orthopaedic Center is looking for a highly motivated Pediatric Medical Assistant (MA)/Floater to perform clinical and secretarial duties. This opening is a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week.

The PEDS MA will assist various orthopedic physicians under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator and provide coverage for clinical teams as needed. Responsibilities include general nursing duties, suture/staple removal, and wound care/dressing changes. Duties also encompass drawing up and calling in medications, applying sterile fields, removing casts and splints, locating imaging, lab results, or reports for upcoming appointments, scheduling and precertifying MRIs, lab work, procedures, and surgeries. The PEDS MA will prepare for clinic by printing patient information requested by physicians, preparing exam rooms, restocking clinic supplies, and powering up computers. They will assist with verifying pre‑op labs and scheduling surgery clearances as required, fill out disability, return‑to‑work, and insurance forms, and obtain physician signatures on miscellaneous forms. Travel locally to satellite offices as required. Patient communication involves answering and returning calls, setting appointment and surgery reminders, responding to and charting patient messages, communicating test results, providing patient education and handouts, and escorting patients to and from exam rooms. The PEDS MA must effectively communicate with patients, TOC physicians, and staff.
