Job summary

UPMC is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join General Academics Pediatrics in Oakland. You will support physicians with patient care and front-office tasks to ensure patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vital signs, point-of-care testing, vaccines, phlebotomy, and documentation in the medical record, under physician supervision. The role operates on daylight hours with one late shift after orientation and four 10-hour days as schedule allows.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and clinical procedures.
• Comfort with medical record handling and HIPAA rules.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records per HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, schedule appointments, verify insurance.
• Prepare/manage charts; maintain infection control and restock supplies.
• Assist with patient rooming, vitals, specimen collection, and education.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; document results.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Dept. of Health; maintain confidentiality.
• Under supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines.
• Document patient information into the medical record.
