The Pediatric Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for evaluating and providing physical therapy treatments to children with a variety of developmental, neurological, and musculoskeletal conditions. The PT works with children to enhance their physical abilities, improve their quality of life, and promote physical well-being. The pediatric PT works collaboratively with families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to create individualized treatment plans and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Perform thorough physical assessments of children to identify impairments, movement limitations, and developmental delays.
  • Utilize standardized tests and clinical observations to create a comprehensive evaluation of the child’s physical abilities.
  • Develop and maintain patient records, documenting progress and treatment plans.
  • Treatment and Intervention:
  • Design and implement individualized therapy programs to meet the physical needs of children.
  • Utilize therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and assistive devices to address motor skills, strength, coordination, balance, and posture.
  • Incorporate play-based therapies to engage children in activities that promote physical growth and development.
  • Provide strategies and techniques to parents and caregivers to continue therapy at home.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and update treatment plans.
  • Educate families on their child’s condition and guide them in supporting the child’s physical development.
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive care.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Track and report on patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to meet the child's evolving needs.
  • Professional Development:
  • Stay current with the latest evidence-based practices and techniques in pediatric physical therapy.
  • Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and continuing education to improve skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in Physical Therapy
  • Valid state licensure as a Physical Therapist
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Experience in pediatric care and discharge planning
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing care plans
  • Familiarity with home health, outpatient, and inpatient settings
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Pay: $55.00 - $70.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 40 per week
