Qualifications

• Requires valid Phlebotomy certification for the state you’ll be employed in.
• Minimum 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Minimum 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process in a clear, courteous manner and demonstrate technique with straight or butterfly needles.
• Ensure all physician orders are understood and followed.
• Match lab requisition forms to specimen tubes and prepare samples for transport.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order and maintain specimen integrity.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and follow OSHA/DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Handle patient inquiries and communicate test results when appropriate.
