Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a pharmacist to join the Pediatric Pharmacy section at the NC Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill. The role focuses on providing patient-centered pediatric care, optimizing drug therapy, and ensuring safe distribution within a busy satellite pharmacy.

Responsibilities include reviewing prescriptions, interfacing with care teams, and guiding discharge medications. Candidates should hold a PharmD or BS in Pharmacy, be licensed or eligible in NC, and may have PGY1/PGY2

Qualifications

• Qualified candidates will have earned a BS in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school/college of pharmacy and must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina.
• Completion of a PGY1 or PGY2 residency in pediatrics or an equivalent level of pharmacy experience is also preferred.
• Candidates should possess and demonstrate excellent initiative, communication, analytical skills, organization, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Ensures timely medication access for service patients; including order review and verification.
• Receives prescriptions, interprets prescriptions, and reviews the patient's medication profile/history.
• Utilizes and analyzes patient data to provide optimal drug therapy recommendations.
• Compounds and oversees the preparation and dispensing of medications including sterile products using standard formulas, processes and procedures as required.
• Maintains patient profiles within electronic medical record to facilitate communication.
• Complies with the medication formulary, and therapeutic substitution and other programs designed to optimize drug therapy while minimizing cost as required.
• Directs workflow of the shift and supervises pharmacy technicians, students, and/or volunteers present during that shift.
• Facilitate discharge and transfer of patients (ie. medication reconciliation and discharge counseling).
• Practices medication safety including adverse drug event and medication error reporting.
• Adheres to federal, state, local and institutional policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
• Precepts students, residents and participates in training new pharmacy staff as required.
