Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Minimum Work Experience: 1 year in health care setting if possible pediatrics; one semester clinical at nursing school or military corpsman training (Preferred)
• Required Licenses/Certifications: CNA or EMT or CPCT (Required)
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) (Required)
• Basic computer skills (typing, email)
• Knowledge of aseptic technique
• Basic calculations; interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Patient Services - Admission: orient family to use call lights, monitor and unit; set up monitor and alarms; perform vital signs, height, weight and head circumference.
• Patient Services - Daily Living: ADLs including bathing, skin care, mouth care and peri-care; ensure proper nutrition; care of tube feeding; apply skin creams; collect cultures, urine and stool samples.
• Direct Patient Care: report pain and skin breakdown; prioritize tasks; assist in trach care and EVDs; assist with central line dressing and patient discharge preparation; maintain tidy environment.
• Monitor Surveillance: observe monitor deviations and follow guidelines when assigned to monitor bank.
• Infection Control: care for isolation patients; hand washing; clean equipment after each patient.
• Documentation: document on nursing database, flow sheets and vital signs; notify charge nurse as suitable.
• Communication/Professionalism: communicate with RN and team; maintain professional relationships; resolve conflicts; support family-centered care; hourly updates to RN; show non-judgmental behavior.
• Shared Leadership: stay informed about council meetings; participate in unit discussions and decisions.
• Safety: speak up on unsafe behavior; verify information; stop to resolve uncertainties; promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers.
