Job summary

The University of Iowa is seeking a Surgical Technologist II for the Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The role supports the Department of Perioperative Services, preparing the surgical area and assisting with procedures under RN direction, with a strong emphasis on aseptic technique and patient safety.

Position requires 80–100% time, with 8- or 10-hour shifts, on-call rotations, and potential sign‑on incentive up to $5,000. UI employees may be ineligible for the incentive.

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology, or certification as a Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA and NCCT).

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical area for patient care and anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
• Serves as primary preceptor for Surgical Technology students and interns.
• Maintains sterile technique and assists with equipment, instruments, supplies and implants.
• Collaborates with surgeons and nursing staff to ensure patient safety and care quality.
• Mentors new staff and student technologists in scrubbing duties.
