TalentBurst is seeking a Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Registered Nurse for Winston-Salem, NC. This 13-week onsite contract offers a 12-hour night shift (7p-7a) with a cross-unit floating requirement between PA and PHO units, excluding Peds ED.

Requirements include 1 year of pediatric hem/oncology or pediatric acute care experience, BLS (PALS preferred). Travel nurses welcome with strong pediatric background. Weekend rotations and 75% holiday work apply.

Qualifications

• PHO: 1 year in Pediatric hem/oncology acute care
• PA: 1 year in pediatric acute care
• First-time traveler accepted with strong pediatric background

Responsibilities

• Night shift 12 hours, 3 days per week.
• Care for pediatric oncology/hematology patients with emphasis on safety and family-centered care.
• Floating between PA and PHO units and other Brenner Health System units as needed.

• 885 licensed beds
• Level 1 Trauma Designation
• Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center

Unit Information:

• Beds: 16 on PHO and 16 on PA
• Average 14-32 patients per day

Minimum Years of Experience required:

• PHO: 1 year in Pediatric hem/oncology acute care
• PA: 1 year in pediatric acute care
• Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes, with a strong pediatric background

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• Leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, general adolescent medicine

Patient Ratios:

• RN:
• Peds Adolescent Medicine – 1:4-5
• CNA: 1:6-16

Required Licensure & Certifications:

• PA: BLS, PALS preferred

Skills required:

• Central line management, chemo administration, strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking.

Support within the Department:

• CNA: vital signs, ADL, safety rounding, I&Os
• Receptionist/HUC
• Charge nurse
• Phlebotomy
• IV/VAT Team - for difficult peripheral access
• Resource Nurse: availability varies
• RT, 24/7
• Hospitalist, 24/7
• Intensivist, 24/7
• Bedside telemetry monitoring, no Tele tech is available.

Technology/Equipment:

• EMR: Epic
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitors:
• Unit specific equipment

Floating:

• Will work routine­ly between PA and PHO and other units in Brenner except Peds ED.

Orientation (facility and unit):

• NEO
• 2 days departmental

Scheduling:

• Weekend rotation: every other
• No on call requirement
• Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• RTO: NM
• Shift times: 7p-7a
• Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
