Job summary

MercyOne is seeking an RN for the Pediatrics department on a 12-hour day shift. The role includes care across labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, pediatrics, and PICU, with supervision of MPN/LPN staff and coordination with physicians and families.

Responsibilities include initial assessments, admission processing, care planning, discharge planning, and ensuring safe, evidence-based, culturally competent care. Iowa licensure and BLS are required, with BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in nursing required.
• BSN preferred.
• Current Iowa RN license (Illinois license if working in IL) required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within 3 months of hire.
• High language, intermediate to high math, critical thinking ability.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts an initial assessment of patients during admission.
• Completes admission assessment data within 24 hours.
• Develops and updates plan of care based on patient needs and outcomes.
• Communicates with physicians, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Assists in discharge planning and ensures families have resources for newborn care and follow-up.
• Documents and evaluates patient progress and revises plans as needed.
• Maintains safety and infection control standards and uses PPE as required.
