Job summary

Riley Hospital for Children is seeking a Full-Time Entry-Level Dental Assistant to join the pediatric dental team in Indianapolis. You will support young patients and families in a fast-paced clinical setting with meaningful hands-on experience.

No Dental Radiology License is required to start; certification must be obtained within 9 months of hire. You will assist in patient care, prepare treatment areas, obtain radiographs, and maintain infection control and scheduling tasks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• BLS-CPR certification required.
• Active Dental Radiology License in Indiana required within 9 months of hire date and maintained.
• Certification in Dental Assisting from an accredited program or on the job training with minimum of 2 years experience in Dental Assisting required.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work with patient populations from varying geographic and financial backgrounds.
• Excellent skills in handling apprehensive or difficult to manage children.
• Ability to work with medically, physically, and/or cognitively compromised patients.
• Ability to treat patients with special health needs, cognitive needs, and/or those with extreme dental fear.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care services in a clinical setting under supervision of a dentist or assigned supervisor.
• Ensures accurate collection and reporting of patient intake data, medical history, and clinical care provided.
• Prioritizes patient care based on resources and prognosis; facilitates smooth patient flow.
• Provides patient education and explains insurance coverage/co-pays.
• Prepares treatment area, instruments, and supplies prior to procedures.
• Obtains diagnostic dental x-rays using safe radiology processes as directed by Dentist/Hygienist.
• Maintains infection control and aseptic processing of instruments and supplies.
• Performs administrative duties including scheduling visits and patient correspondence.
