Job summary

Riley Hospital for Children is seeking an entry-level Full-Time Dental Assistant to support the pediatric dental team in a busy clinical setting. Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with no weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements, offering a stable daytime schedule.

The role involves assisting dentists, maintaining sterile instruments, taking radiographs, and guiding families through care and insurance information.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 0-3 years of relevant dental assisting experience.
• BLS-CPR certification is required.
• Active Indiana Dental Radiology License within 9 months of hire.
• Certification in Dental Assisting from an accredited program or on-the-job training with 2+ years experience.
• Excellent communication and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
• Ability to work with pediatric patients, including uncooperative children.

Join the pediatric dental team at Riley Hospital for Children as a F ull-Time Entry-Level Dental Assistant!

This full-time, day-shift position (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM) offers a consistent schedule with no call, no weekends, and no holidays . Working in a dynamic environment with a high pediatric patient volume, you'll gain valuable experience supporting young patients and their families. No Dental Radiology License is required to start, but you must pass the exam and obtain certification within your first 9 months of service.

Job Description:

Performs patient care services in a clinical setting under the supervision of a dentist or as directed by assigned supervisor. Assures accurate collection and reporting of patient intake data, medical history, cognitive/emotional diagnosis, and clinical care provided. Prioritizes patent care based on resources, unit volume, and patient prognosis. Facilitates smooth patient flow, provides patient education/teaching, explains insurance coverage/co-pays, and assures necessary documents are complete. Ensures the presence and proper arrangement of instruments, equipment, and supplies in the treatment area prior to each procedure. As directed by Dentist/Hygienist, obtains diagnostic dental x-rays using safe radiology processes and assists provider during patient care. Uses advanced behavior management techniques to support safe and effective care with uncooperative patients. Maintains, organizes, stocks, and cleans dental equipment and unit(s). Responsible for aseptic/sterile processing of dental instruments, reusable supplies, and equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements, infection control policies, and best practice recommendations. Performs administrative and registration duties, schedules patient visits, and engages in patient correspondence. Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• BLS-CPR certification required.
• Active Dental Radiology License in Indiana required within 9 months of hire date and maintained.
• Certification in Dental Assisting from and accredited program or on the job training with minimum of 2 years experience in Dental Assisting required.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job required.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Requires the ability to demonstrate and foster skills working with patient populations from varying geographic and financial backgrounds.
• Requires excellent skills in handling apprehensive or difficult to manage children.
• Requires the ability to work with medically, physically, and/or cognitively compromised patients.
• Requires the ability to treat patients with special health needs, cognitive needs, and/or those with extreme dental fear.
