Job summary

Phoenix Children's is seeking a Part-Time Child Life Specialist I in Phoenix to plan and provide therapeutic intervention and psychosocial developmental support for pediatric patients and families, helping them cope with the stress of healthcare experiences.

Responsibilities include assessment, goal development, education for patients and families, developmentally appropriate therapeutic play, advocacy within the care team, and meticulous documentation in the medical record.

Qualifications

• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient/family coping needs related to illness and hospitalization.
• Provides a safe, therapeutic environment for pediatric patients and families during care.
• Uses PRAP and emotional safety tools to assess development, coping and psychosocial risk.
• Develops individualized treatment plans with patient and family goals.
• Educates children and families about diagnoses, procedures and treatments to reduce fear.

Responsibilities

• Develops and documents coping strategies and educational support for patients and families.
• Facilitates developmentally appropriate therapeutic play and medical play activities.
• Advocates for patient/family needs within the care team and supports family-centered care.
• Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and treatment evaluations.
• Documents assessments, interventions and outcomes in the medical record.
• Mentors students and volunteers and supports ongoing team development.
