Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a part-time Chaplain to provide pastoral and spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in a pediatric setting. The role includes coordinating services, rounds, and crisis interventions with the healthcare team.

The ideal candidate holds a Master of Divinity or equivalent, with clinical pastoral education, endorsements/certifications, and experience in acute care. Spanish language abilities are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent from an ATS-accredited school; four quarters of clinical pastoral education (CPE) or equivalent experience.
• Endorsement for ministry with affiliated religious group; certification by professional chaplains’ endorsing body.
• Pastoral care experience in acute care settings or with children and families.
• Ability to think proactively, act creatively, and take initiative.
• Excellent communication, critical-thinking, and interpersonal skills.
• Spanish language abilities strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates to coordinate service delivery with families and appropriate team members across the continuum.
• Makes pastoral care rounds and visits in assigned clinical areas.
• Identifies, assesses, and responds to child/family needs including age-specific developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Develops relationships with families to provide spiritual care that is caring and reliable.
• Provides intervention for emergencies/crises and grief support for families.
• Documents thoroughly in accordance with professional standards and participates in interdisciplinary rounds.
