Job summary

Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin seeks experienced pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists to join the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease.

Candidates will oversee care before, during, and after cardiac surgery, develop care protocols, and lead QA registries and performance improvement initiatives. Collaborative opportunities with multiple specialties and a focus on research are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
• Meets applicable credentialing and privileging standards for his/her specialty.
• Currently board certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesia and Pediatric Anesthesia with additional formal training in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas (or the ability to obtain prior to appointment).
• Demonstrated clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
• Ability to influence/motivate others at all professional and administrative levels.
• Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
• Must possess tenacity, self-motivation and initiative necessary to perform as part of a team for both established and new programs; demonstrates behaviors of a team player.
• Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and direct care to patients pre-, intra-, and post-cardiac surgery.
• Develop and implement care protocols for Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.
• Oversee QI registries related to Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.
• Oversee education, quality assurance and ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
• Participate in coordinated outreach efforts for the Center.
• Collaborate with medical and adjunct specialties for program development and clinical research.

About the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Dell Medical School is dedicated to delivering comprehensive, high-acuity surgical care while advancing innovation in clinical practice, education, and research. Our team provides the full continuum of care for patients with complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular conditions, in close collaboration with partners across critical care, cardiology, and anesthesiology.

• Complex aortic surgery, including open and hybrid approaches to thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.

About the Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist Position

The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas (DCMCCT) are seeking experienced pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists to join the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease.

Candidates will possess experience in caring for children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease and adults with congenital heart disease. Primary responsibilities will include oversight and provision of direct care to patients prior to, during, and after cardiac surgery. Other responsibilities include developing and implementing care protocols, overseeing the QI registries pertinent to Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia and to oversee education, quality assurance and ongoing performance improvement initiatives. Candidates will also participate in coordinated outreach efforts for the Center. Opportunities for collaboration with medical and adjunct specialties will be encouraged to allow for the pursuit of innovative program development and clinical research initiatives.
