Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant (BHA) for Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. The role provides direct and indirect observations and supports patients with mental health and behavioral challenges, under RN supervision.

You will work 7p-7a on a night shift, engage patients compassionately, document behaviors, and coordinate with clinical staff to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while protecting patient dignity and privacy.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in direct patient care or observations preferred.
• Completion of one year in a human services field acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct/non-clinical observation as assigned.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing/clinical staff promptly.
• Monitor and document patient behavior, mood and activity per protocols.
• Assist patients with daily activities such as hygiene, meals and mobility.
• De-escalate situations using approved verbal techniques to ensure safety.
• Maintain patient privacy and observe rights and confidentiality.
