Job summary

Shriners Children's St. Louis is recruiting three full-time, fellowship-trained Pediatric Anesthesiologists to join its perioperative team.

The role focuses on pediatric anesthesia with an all-physician model and a 1-in-4 home-call schedule, serving mid- and lower-acuity cases with a multidisciplinary team. Approximately 90% of clinical time is in the OR, with preoperative assessments and occasional PACU duties.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency
• Completion of a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship
• Board certification or eligibility in anesthesiology with subspecialty in pediatric anesthesiology
• Eligibility for active Missouri medical licensure
• Eligibility for active DEA registration
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification
• Eligibility for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges
• Expertise in pediatric physiology, pharmacology, anesthetic techniques, advanced airway management, vascular access, and resuscitation
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in high-acuity settings and multidisciplinary care environments

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized anesthetic care plans for pediatric patients
• Administer general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care in surgical and nonsurgical settings
• Monitor vital signs, anesthetic depth, and physiologic parameters throughout induction, maintenance, and emergence
• Use pediatric-appropriate airway and ventilation strategies, including advanced airway management techniques
• Recognize and respond to intraoperative complications and perioperative emergencies
• Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, pediatricians, nurses, and other allied health professionals
• Provide postoperative pain management and follow-up, including regional anesthesia and sedation-recovery monitoring
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, clinical protocol development, and peer review
• Contribute to medical education or scholarly activities as appropriate
• Meet established productivity, quality, and institutional performance standards
