Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized anesthetic care plans for pediatric patients
• Administer general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care in surgical and nonsurgical settings
• Monitor vital signs and anesthetic depth throughout all phases
• Use pediatric airway management strategies and advanced techniques
• Recognize and respond to intraoperative complications and emergencies
• Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, pediatricians, nurses, and therapists
• Provide postoperative pain management and follow-up including regional anesthesia
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation
• Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives

Shriners Children's St. Louis is recruiting three full-time, fellowship-trained Pediatric Anesthesiologists to join its dedicated perioperative team.

These opportunities offer focused pediatric anesthesia practices, an all-physician care model, thoughtfully structured schedules, and the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team. Physicians will provide anesthesia care for children undergoing a broad range of procedures, including general orthopedics, spine, upper and lower extremity, sports medicine, and select plastic surgeries.

THE PRACTICE

Approximately 90% of each anesthesiologist's clinical time will be spent in the operating room, with the remaining time dedicated to preoperative assessments and occasional PACU coverage.

Practice highlights include:

• Two operating rooms staffed daily
• An all-physician anesthesia model with no CRNA supervision
• A rotating 1-in-4 home-call schedule
• No PICU responsibilities
• No routine resident or fellow teaching responsibilities
• Opportunities to perform regional anesthesia, ultrasound-guided blocks, and advanced airway management

The practice primarily serves mid- and lower-acuity pediatric patients, including children with complex neuromuscular conditions. Anesthesiologists work within a collaborative care model supported by pediatric orthopedic surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and recreational therapy staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized anesthetic care plans for pediatric patients
• Administer general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care in surgical and nonsurgical settings
• Monitor vital signs, anesthetic depth, and physiologic parameters throughout induction, maintenance, and emergence
• Use pediatric-appropriate airway and ventilation strategies, including advanced airway management techniques
• Recognize and respond to intraoperative complications and perioperative emergencies
• Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, pediatricians, nurses, and other allied health professionals
• Provide postoperative pain management and follow-up, including regional anesthesia and sedation-recovery monitoring
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, clinical protocol development, and peer review
• Contribute to medical education or scholarly activities as appropriate
• Meet established productivity, quality, and institutional performance standards

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have:

• An MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency
• Completion of a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship
• Board certification or eligibility in anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology, with subspecialty certification or eligibility in pediatric anesthesiology
• Eligibility for active, unrestricted medical licensure in Missouri
• Eligibility for active DEA registration
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification
• Eligibility for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges
• Expertise in pediatric physiology, pharmacology, anesthetic techniques, advanced airway management, vascular access, and resuscitation
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
• The ability to work effectively in high-acuity, time-sensitive settings and within a multidisciplinary care environment

EXPERIENCE

One to three years of post-fellowship or equivalent pediatric anesthesiology experience is preferred. Recent fellowship graduates will be considered based on their training and clinical exposure.

COMPENSATION

The annual compensation range for each position is **$143,374.40-$215,051.20**. Compensation is determined by relevant experience and departmental equity.
