Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach seeks a licensed professional engineer to join the Public Works Facilities Design & Construction Division. The role focuses on managing building design and construction services, coordinating with City staff and review agencies, and overseeing contracts from design through closeout.

Responsibilities include evaluating design fees, preparing cost estimates, reviewing plans for sequencing, quality and cost control, and communicating with City departments and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field and a PE license.
• Minimum of five years of progressive professional experience.
• Ability to coordinate design, procurement, and construction processes.

Responsibilities

• Project management for building design and construction services.
• Design and review of construction and major renovation project plans and specifications.
• Prepare and review cost estimates and monitor project expenditures.
• Administer construction and engineering contracts.
• Review project plans for sequencing, quality, and cost control.
• Coordinate with City departments and outside agencies.
• Communicate with City departments and the public.
• Conduct field assessments and related work as required.
