Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology is seeking a Facility Engineer (Environmental Engineer 3) in the Water Quality Program to protect surface and groundwater across Washington's eastern counties. The role involves writing NPDES and state wastewater permits, reviewing plans, and providing technical assistance to facilities to ensure compliance.

The position offers hybrid work with telework options; the first 30 days are in-office, then at least one in-office day per week.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington or another state (equivalent requirements).
• Three years of environmental engineering experience including permit development, engineering review, and regulatory interpretation.
• Experience with data analysis and applying modeling tools to determine impacts.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate and review environmental plans and monitoring programs for permitted facilities.
• Review engineering documents to ensure protection of water quality and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with site inspections and provide technical assistance to meet permit conditions.
• Author NPDES permits for industrial and municipal facilities to protect water quality.
• Author NPDES permits to protect groundwater for various facilities.
