Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our patient‑care team. You’ll provide nursing care to patients under supervision, following the nursing process, hospital standards, and policies to ensure high quality care.

We offer a full‑time/part‑time schedule with AM/PM shifts, a $5,000 sign‑on bonus for eligible full‑time hires, and a comprehensive benefits package including educational assistance, generous PTO, and wellness programs.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program; education cannot be substituted.
• Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as an LPN by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• ACLS/PALS certification may be required depending on the unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process and hospital standards.
• Orient patients and families to the environment and advocate for patients.
• Collect assessment data and notify RN of potential problems.

Position Overview

Pay range: $22.90 - $37.25 / hour

Sign-on bonus: $5,000 new hire sign-on bonus may be available (full-time only)

Shifts: full-time and part-time AM and PM, weekends AM and PM, flexi/PRN

Schedules: 7 a.m.-7 p.m., 7 p.m.-7 a.m.

Job Description

Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient’s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient’s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
