Job summary

Dayton Children's Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support nurses in the NICU at the Main Campus. The role emphasizes direct patient care activities, vital signs, daily living assistance, and safe transportation with strict confidentiality and safety adherence.

The PCA will work full time (36 hours per week) in a dynamic NICU, cross-trained to support both clinical and clerical tasks, contributing to a patient- and family-centered environment.

Qualifications

• PCA training or PCA experience or actively enrolled in a health care related education program is required.
• 1-2 years STNA experience in hospital setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs, intake and output, and assist with activities of daily living.
• Provide safe transportation and a clean, safe environment for patients.
• Report patient information to the nurse and ask questions when guidance is needed.
• Support both clinical and clerical tasks as part of a cross-trained team.

Job description

Responsible for assisting the nurse in completion of patient care activities, taking into consideration the patient’s developmental levels. Demonstrates strong communication skills, accepts delegated tasks and has the knowledge and understanding to ask questions and report patient information as indicated. Appropriately handles patient information understanding confidentiality and privacy. Complies with the safety management program designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and to reduce the risk of injury. Is knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital. The PCA promotes a patient and family experience oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external. The PCA measures and records vital signs, intake and output, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides safe transportation and environment for patients. The PCA is cross trained to support the clinical and clerical sides of the business.
