Job summary

Dayton Children's is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support nurses in delivering patient-centered care on the Main Campus. The role emphasizes safety, confidentiality, and effective communication, with cross-training to assist both clinical and clerical tasks.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, PCA training or related healthcare education, and 1-2 years of hospital STNA experience is preferred. CPR may be required within two weeks of start date.

  • 1-2 years STNA experience in hospital setting preferred.
  • CPR preferred at hire, but must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.

Job Details

Responsible for assisting the nurse in completion of patient care activities, taking into consideration the patient’s developmental levels. Demonstrates strong communication skills, accepts delegated tasks and has the knowledge and understanding to ask questions and report patient information as indicated. Appropriately handles patient information understanding confidentiality and privacy. Complies with the safety management program designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and to reduce the risk of injury. Is knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital. The PCA promotes a patient and family experience oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external. The PCA measures and records vital signs, intake and output, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides safe transportation and environment for patients. The PCA is cross trained to support the clinical and clerical sides of the business.

Education
  • HSD/GED is required
Experience
  • PCA training or PCA experience or actively enrolled in a health care related education program is required
