Job summary

Dayton Children's is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to support the Perioperative Services team on the Main Campus. The role involves assisting nurses with patient care activities, taking vital signs, and ensuring patient safety in a hospital setting.

The PCA collaborates with clinicians, maintains privacy, and helps transport patients while handling confidential information. A high school diploma or GED is required, with PCA training or related healthcare enrollment preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have HSD/GED or higher.
• Prior PCA training, PCA experience, or enrollment in health care program preferred.
• 1–2 years STNA hospital experience preferred.
• CPR certification preferred at hire, or obtain within 2 weeks of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurse with patient care activities, respecting developmental levels.
• Record vital signs, intake and output, and report patient information.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide safe transportation.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, and care teams; maintain confidentiality.

Responsible for assisting the nurse in completion of patient care activities, taking into consideration the patient's developmental levels. Demonstrates strong communication skills, accepts delegated tasks and has the knowledge and understanding to ask questions and report patient information as indicated. Appropriately handles patient information understanding confidentiality and privacy. Complies with the safety management program designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and to reduce the risk of injury. Is knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital. The PCA promotes a patient and family experience oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external. The PCA measures and records vital signs, intake and output, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides safe transportation and environment for patients. The PCA is cross trained to support the clinical and clerical sides of the business. Department Specific Job Details:
