Job summary

Addison Group is seeking a Senior Director of Payroll Transformation in Chevy Chase, MD, hybrid work three days on-site. This strategic role leads a major payroll transformation, centering on process redesign, Workday optimization, automation, and AI-enabled improvements to create a scalable payroll operating model for ~2,500 employees across 30 states.

The candidate will drive the migration, governance, and controls, partnering with Finance, HR, Legal, IT, and leadership.

Qualifications

• Proven experience redesigning or transforming a payroll function.
• Experience leading Workday Payroll migrations or implementations.
• Deep Workday Payroll configuration, testing, integrations, or reporting knowledge.
• Experience modernizing manual or outdated payroll processes.
• Understanding of payroll automation and AI-enabled process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead redesign and transformation of the payroll function.
• Direct the Workday Payroll migration, including mapping, data validation, testing, configuration review, implementation, and stabilization.
• Develop transformation roadmap for payroll across 30 states.
• Redesign workflows for accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and controls.
• Optimize Workday Payroll functionality, reporting, and automation.
• Reduce reliance on spreadsheets and tribal knowledge.
• Apply AI/automation opportunities within payroll operations.
• Lead change management and stakeholder engagement for new tech and processes.
• Establish scalable payroll policies, controls, and SOPs.
• Oversee payroll operations for ~2,500 employees across 30 states.
• Ensure compliance with multi-state payroll, taxes, wage/hour, and visa rules.
• Improve payroll reporting and executive visibility.
• Partner with Finance, HR, Legal, Benefits, IT, and ops leadership.
• Communicate strategy, risks, and progress to C-level executives.
• Lead and grow the payroll team and drive continuous improvement.
