Job summary

MODERNCONTROLS LLC. is seeking a senior payroll professional to administer accurate payroll with a focus on union, prevailing wage, and certified payroll compliance. The role requires hands-on experience with multiple CBAs, wage rates, and jurisdictions, plus Paylocity expertise.

You will perform reconciliations, audits, and corrective actions, while ensuring confidentiality and strict adherence to deadlines. A degree in accounting/finance/HR and CPP or FPC certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of progressive payroll experience, with substantial hands-on responsibility for union payroll, prevailing wage, and certified payroll.
• Direct union payroll experience with multiple CBAs, wage schedules, classifications, jurisdictions, and union requirements.
• Direct prevailing wage experience including interpretation and application of wage determinations, base wage rates, fringe benefits, and project requirements.
• Certified payroll experience including preparation, review, reconciliation, and submission of reports.
• Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements, including wage rates, overtime provisions, and fringe benefits.
• Experience administering payroll involving multiple unions, locals, classifications, wage rates, and geographic jurisdictions.
• Knowledge of federal and state prevailing wage requirements (Davis-Bacon Act) and related compliance.
• Strong payroll compliance knowledge: wage-hour laws, deductions, taxes, recordkeeping, and audit documentation.
• Experience performing reconciliations, audits, and corrective adjustments with accuracy.
• Proficiency with Paylocity or similar payroll/HRIS; Paylocity preferred.
• Strong Excel skills with formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Ability to research discrepancies and take corrective action within authority, with good judgment.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Administer accurate payroll by reviewing inputs, time records, earnings, deductions, and adjustments before finalization.
• Apply union and wage compliance, including CBAs, wage schedules, and certified payroll requirements.
• Perform payroll reconciliations and audits; identify weaknesses and propose improvements.
• Research and resolve payroll/timekeeping questions for employees and managers with professional judgment.
• Support payroll systems and reporting; assist Paylocity administration and implement process improvements.
