Job summary

UKG in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for 600+ employees across multiple states. This onsite role requires strong knowledge of payroll systems (UKG) and tax compliance, with a focus on data integrity and service excellence.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 3 years of payroll experience, including multi-state work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Admin or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience, multi-state a plus.
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems (UKG preferred) and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 600+ employees across multiple states.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Process and reconcile payroll data, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records in the HRIS and payroll systems.
• Handle payroll audits and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Prepare and submit tax filings (W-2s, 1099s, etc.).
• Stay updated on changes to payroll laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure data integrity and respond to employee inquiries.
• Assist with system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements.

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
