  • Prepare payroll reports, reconcile data, and support audits.

Job Overview – Payroll Specialist (Temporary)

Compensation: $20–$25/hour

Location: Queens, NY

Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)

Atlantic Group is hiring a Payroll Specialist (Temporary) in Queens, NY for our client. This potential temp-to-perm opportunity supports high-volume payroll operations for a large, unionized workforce while the organization undergoes a major HRIS implementation. The Payroll Specialist will assist with weekly payroll processing, employee changes, deductions, payroll audits, and employee inquiries. The ideal candidate has hands-on payroll experience, strong Excel and HRIS skills, and experience working with high-volume or union payroll environments.

Responsibilities as the Payroll Specialist:
  • Payroll Processing: Support accurate and timely high-volume payroll processing while reviewing payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Employee Data: Process employee changes, compensation updates, deductions, direct deposits, and other payroll transactions.
  • Payroll Administration: Maintain accurate payroll and employee information within HRIS and timekeeping systems while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Deductions & Garnishments: Process payroll deductions and wage garnishments in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Reporting & Reconciliation: Prepare payroll reports, reconcile data, investigate discrepancies, and support payroll audits.
  • Employee Support: Respond to payroll inquiries, resolve payroll-related issues, and assist with additional payroll projects as needed.
Qualifications for the Payroll Specialist:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required, with a college degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of payroll or payroll administration experience is required.
  • Payroll Knowledge: Experience with high-volume payroll processing, deductions, garnishments, and employee data management is required.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping systems are required.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Strong knowledge of payroll procedures and applicable wage and payroll requirements is required.
  • Skills & Attributes: Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, confidentiality, and time management skills are required.
