Job summary

Navy Life PNW is seeking a Payroll Specialist assigned to the NAF N94 HR Office within the Fleet and Family Readiness Support Service Center, responsible for processing payroll and maintaining payroll records for 900+ NAF employees across three NW installations.

The role requires knowledge of payroll systems, wage regulations, and strong data-entry and customer-service skills, with emphasis on accuracy and interdepartmental communication. On-site position in Keyport, WA.

Qualifications

• Two years of general experience demonstrating progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform accounting or payroll functions.
• Specialized experience of at least one year processing payroll for a large organization, including use of automated financial systems, processing of timekeeping records, balance and reconciliation of accounts, and adherence to wage and hour regulations.
• Knowledge of all areas of payroll processing and the various techniques and procedures necessary to properly pay employees on a timely basis and maintain adequate controls.
• Knowledge of automated payroll system(s), pay/deduction codes, general ledger account code structure(s), and payroll/personnel procedures.
• Knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures sufficient to understand account relationships within an extensive account structure of an automated system.
• Knowledge of Non-Appropriated Fund regulations is a plus.
• Knowledge of Federal records procedures and regulations.
• Skill in the use of an automated accounting, payroll or HRIS system (e.g., ADP, SAP, KRONOS).
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
• Skill working with various data files, applications and systems to import/export data.
• Skill and demonstrated experience performing data entry with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Skill in providing excellent customer service from prior experience and training.
• Skill in interpersonal communication to interact with a variety of internal and external customers at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to provide general advice and assistance on interpretation of basic pay policies and regulations.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports related to the HR functional area.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with tact and diplomacy.
