This role plays a critical part on our Payroll team for the Americas region serving the US and Canada by ensuring our employees' pay is captured and processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. You also get the Dr. Martens brand and are excited to support the team in enhancing Dr. Martens’ payroll expertise in region.

  • Consistently and accurately processes payroll for 700+ retail and non-retail employees in the US and Canada, with an added 300+ during peak season.
  • Applies understanding of federal, state, and local (city/county) laws/policies/regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Audits timesheets and time-away-from-work requests to ensure wages and benefits are properly distributed. Ensures accurate taxation and garnishment is recorded to each account.
  • Communicates with manager and HR teams to make necessary changes/updates to accounts.
  • Uses HRIS knowledge to research, analyse, resolve discrepancies, and report to management as needed.
  • Assists with the maintenance of a wide variety of payroll information, files, and records in electronic format (and written, where appropriate) to provide an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Addresses and resolves employee queries relating to the payroll system and manages workflow to maximize efficiency.
  • Supports payroll taxation activities including quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting and returns, implementing law/regulation updates, and responding to tax inquires and notifications.
  • Participates in end-of-month closing and audits.
  • Conducts year-end reporting for W-2s and processing of W-2cs.
  • Remains in constant and transparent communication with teammates and management.
  • Always complies with all legal and institutional requirements.
  • Demonstrates respect for client privacy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

THE STUFF THAT SETS YOU APART

  • Proven experience as a payroll specialist or in a similar payroll process role.
  • Multi-state payroll processing experience.
  • Fundamentals Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications with experience in Microsoft Excel, including formulas (such as VLOOKUP and pivot tables).
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations related to garnishments, child support, tax levies, FLSA, and comprehensive knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll regulations.
  • Familiarity with Dayforce, or other HRIS, is preferred.
  • Good understanding of common fiscal procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Maintains sensitive and confidential data appropriately.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • International/domestic travel: 0%
  • Ability to work at a standard computer set up 40+ hours per week, with or without accommodations.
