Job summary

Specialty Building Products is seeking a Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate and timely pay across multiple states. This role emphasizes compliance, data integrity, and confidentiality in handling payroll for hourly and salaried staff.

The position requires 2+ years of payroll processing, strong knowledge of wage and hour laws, and proficiency with Excel and payroll systems (UKG a plus). A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour regulations.
  • Proficiency with Excel and payroll software; UKG experience is a plus.

Job description

Specialty Building Products is currently looking for a Payroll Specialist that will play a vital role in ensuring every paycheck reflects accuracy, care, and trust. This position is more than numbers. It’s about honoring the contributions of our people by delivering timely and precise payroll across multiple states. Responsibilities
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Calculate overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, and retroactive pay with precision and fairness.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including deductions, garnishments, and benefit contributions.
  • Review payroll registers and reports for accuracy; research and resolve discrepancies promptly.
Collaboration & Support
  • Partner with HR on new hires, terminations, pay changes, timekeeping, and benefits updates to ensure a smooth employee experience.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees, responding to inquiries regarding pay, taxes, deductions, and payroll policies with clarity and care.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and protect sensitive employee information at all times.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience for hourly and salaried employees preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, and payroll best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems; experience with UKG is a plus.
