Job summary

A staffing agency is seeking a Payroll Specialist responsible for processing payroll for employees in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The role entails ensuring compliance with various regulations, maintaining accurate employee pay records, and supporting both union and non-union payrolls. Ideal candidates should have a degree in Accounting or Finance, along with over 2 years of payroll processing experience. Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel is essential. Qualifications

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and wage and hour compliance.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly/bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried manufacturing employees.
  • Review and validate timekeeping data, including overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, and premiums.
  • Ensure accurate payroll deductions for benefits, garnishments, taxes, and 401(k) contributions.
  • Maintain payroll records and employee data within payroll and HRIS systems.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing payroll for hourly and salaried employees within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, supports union and non-union payrolls as applicable, and partners with HR and Finance to maintain accurate employee pay records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process weekly/bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried manufacturing employees
  • Review and validate timekeeping data, including overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, and premiums
  • Ensure accurate payroll deductions for benefits, garnishments, taxes, and 401(k) contributions
  • Maintain payroll records and employee data within payroll and HRIS systems
  • Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
  • Support payroll audits and year-end activities, including W-2 preparation
  • Coordinate with HR on new hires, terminations, pay changes, and leave tracking
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and confidentially
  • Assist with union payroll rules, CBAs, and job costing (if applicable)
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and wage and hour compliance
  • Experience with timekeeping systems and payroll software (ADP, UKG, Paychex, Workday, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables preferred)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Preferred Experience
  • Union payroll and collective bargaining agreement experience
  • Multi-state payroll processing
  • Job costing or labor distribution experience
