The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing payroll for hourly and salaried employees within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, supports union and non-union payrolls as applicable, and partners with HR and Finance to maintain accurate employee pay records.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly/bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried manufacturing employees
- Review and validate timekeeping data, including overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, and premiums
- Ensure accurate payroll deductions for benefits, garnishments, taxes, and 401(k) contributions
- Maintain payroll records and employee data within payroll and HRIS systems
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Support payroll audits and year-end activities, including W-2 preparation
- Coordinate with HR on new hires, terminations, pay changes, and leave tracking
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and confidentially
- Assist with union payroll rules, CBAs, and job costing (if applicable)
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and wage and hour compliance
- Experience with timekeeping systems and payroll software (ADP, UKG, Paychex, Workday, or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables preferred)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Preferred Experience
- Union payroll and collective bargaining agreement experience
- Multi-state payroll processing
- Job costing or labor distribution experience
