Job summary

Westchester County is seeking a payroll clerk under general supervision to perform specialized clerical work relating to payroll matters. The incumbent processes and checks payrolls, supports civil service papers, time and attendance reports, deduction registers, and maintains a computerized payroll roster for a large department or major division.

Guidance may be provided to a small number of staff. The Department of Civil Service has developed a hiring program (HELP) to streamline appointments

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years of general clerical experience.
• Two years using automated systems for payroll or personnel records.

Responsibilities

• Process and check payrolls and related records.
• Support time and attendance reports and deduction registers.
• Maintain computerized payroll roster file for a large department.
