Job summary

Cannistraro is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee high-volume weekly payroll for field and office staff in a multi-state, union-influenced environment. This hands-on leadership role requires strong collaboration with Accounting, HR, Operations, and Legal to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.

The role includes supervising one Payroll Specialist, driving process improvements, and maintaining robust internal controls while supporting year-end activities and benefits

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of high-volume payroll experience.
• Experience managing payroll operations and supervising staff.
• Construction and union payroll experience preferred.
• CPP certification preferred.
• CMiC experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, multi-state payroll, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Manage accurate and timely weekly payroll for field and office employees.
• Supervise and support one Payroll Specialist, providing guidance and training.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and union payroll requirements, including certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting.
• Oversee payroll tax filings, audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities (W-2s, 401(k)).
• Process union benefit contributions, labor rate updates, and payroll deductions.
• Reconcile payroll accounts and maintain payroll-ledger accuracy.
• Serve as payroll SME for CMiC and related systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and internal controls.
