Job summary

Cherry Bekaert Staffing & Recruiting is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll operations for a growing organization across multiple states. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and timely processing while driving process improvements and partnering with HR and Finance.

Hybrid or on-site schedule with competitive base salary plus bonus potential and comprehensive benefits. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of payroll leadership, strong state tax knowledge, and hands-on experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of payroll experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, Paylocity, or similar).
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle payroll processing on a bi-weekly/semi-monthly basis for multi-state employees.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax filings and reporting.
• Lead payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities (W-2s, 1099s, etc.).
• Oversee payroll systems administration, maintenance, and enhancements.
• Partner with HR and Finance to ensure seamless integration of payroll data (benefits, bonuses, commissions, etc.).
• Manage and mentor payroll staff (if applicable), providing training and development.
• Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements, and process standardization.
• Support external audits and respond to payroll-related inquiries.
