Job summary

LeoForce in Oakland, CA, is seeking a dynamic Payroll Manager to lead our payroll function in a fast-paced engineering environment. You will oversee wage and tax compliance, ensure accurate processing, and drive improvements across payroll systems.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of payroll management experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and a solid knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations. CPP certification is a plus; hybrid work offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a payroll management role, preferably in a large organization.
  • Proven experience with timesheet management and payroll implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll processes, internal controls, and payroll taxes.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal payroll regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and payroll software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team development abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • CPP certification is preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS and time & attendance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the payroll function including wage and hour law compliance, tax reporting, and payroll systems maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency and consult with senior management to improve payroll and HRIS systems.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee payroll queries.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and accounting teams.
  • Manage and oversee the processing of timesheets, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies and trends in payroll processing.
  • Train and support team members in the use of payroll-related systems and processes.

Job Description

  • 8. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
  • 9. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • 10. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.
  • 11. Professional certification such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred.
  • 12. Experience with payroll software, HRIS, and time and attendance systems.
