Responsibilities

  • Process and oversee multi-state payroll using UltiPro.
  • Manage payroll changes: new hires, terminations, transfers, compensation updates, deductions, garnishments.
  • Review inputs and outputs, resolve complex payroll issues before processing.
  • Answer payroll questions from employees and stakeholders.
  • Reconcile payroll data and support quarterly and year-end activities (W-2).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations.
  • Support payroll across multiple FEINs and entities.
  • Prepare payroll reports and perform detailed analyses using Excel.

Job description

Our team is partnering with a leading financial services organization to identify an experienced Payroll Manager to join its growing payroll team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional to take on a highly visible role within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Reporting to the Senior Payroll Manager, this individual will help oversee end-to-end payroll operations across a complex, high-volume, multi-state employee population. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, resolving complex payroll matters, and partnering closely with HR, Benefits, and Finance. This person will also contribute to payroll-related projects and process improvements designed to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and the overall employee experience.

Key Responsibilities & Qualifications:
  • Process and oversee multi-state payroll using UltiPro, ensuring accurate calculations and timely payroll delivery.
  • Manage payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, transfers, compensation updates, deductions, and garnishments.
  • Review payroll inputs and outputs, identify discrepancies, and resolve complex payroll issues before final processing.
  • Serve as a key resource for employees and internal stakeholders regarding payroll-related questions and concerns.
  • Reconcile payroll data, validate payroll reports, and support quarterly and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing.
  • Partner with HR, Benefits, Finance, and other internal teams to resolve employee pay inquiries and ensure the accuracy of payroll information.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and internal policies.
  • Support payroll operations across multiple FEINs and legal entities within a high-volume environment.
  • Prepare payroll reports and perform detailed analysis and reconciliations using advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen payroll controls, streamline workflows, and improve overall efficiency and accuracy.
  • Contribute to payroll system enhancements, special projects, audits, and other departmental initiatives.
  • Bring 7+ years of progressive, multi-state payroll experience, ideally within a large or complex organization.
  • CPP or FPC certification and experience with IBM Cognos are preferred.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and comfortable managing competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive employee information with discretion are essential.
